The Drums of Cabernet, Shiraz and Malbec Continue to Beat in Langhorne Creek

Langhorne Creek cabernet has again been recognised as the region’s tower of strength in the 2019
Multi-Color Langhorne Creek Wine Show, with the pre-eminent trophy for Champion Wine of Show
being awarded to Lake Breeze 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon.

The judges also recognised the variety’s superior aging capabilities by awarding the 2012 Lake
Breeze Cabernet Sauvignon the Brady & Co trophy for Best Museum or Fortified Wine of the show.

The 2019 panel of judges consisted of Chair of Judges, Charlie Seppelt, joined by Kerri Thompson of
KT Wines and international judge, China Wine Expert, Fongyee Walker MW.

“This year we were very fortunate to have Fongyee Walker MW join the judging panel” said Charlie
Seppelt. “Regional shows exemplify the bloodline of Australian wines and the shows bring in highly
credentialed local and international judges with exceptional knowledge like KT and Fongyee. After
this week we can be assured Fongyee will return home having experienced some outstanding wines
and with a greater understanding of our region.”

Charlie especially praised the red wines tasted at the judging. “The drum of cabernet, shiraz and
malbec continues to beat in Langhorne Creek. Highlights of the judging were the dry reds, in
particular the 2016 vintage. We could not ignore the depth and capacity of these wines.”

Langhorne Creek Wine Show’s International Judge Fongyee Walker was equally impressed with the
quality of shiraz in the region “The shiraz judging was a particular pleasure for me – this area
produces beautiful examples” she said.

“The Langhorne Creek Wine Show has been a fantastic opportunity to explore the range of styles
and wines that this region has – it has been an immense surprise to find out about the rich history of
the region and the invaluable contribution that it has made to the world of Australian wine.”
Fongyee’s International Judge’s Award went to Kimbolton’s The Rifleman Shiraz 2016.

Producer of the Year is presented to the wine producer with the top three scores across a number of
classes, showing consistency and quality across varieties. This year’s recipient is Bremerton Wines.

Temple Bruer Senior Viticulturist Barrie Williams was presented with the Viticulturist of the Year
award and was recognised for his contribution to the Langhorne Creek region and in particular for
his adoption of technologies for reducing energy usage, zero carbon farming practices, smarter
compost management and his focus on future water security and the Langhorne Creek region.

The awards ceremony on Friday May 3, saw 300 grape growers, winemakers, trade and winery staff
gathered for lunch catered by award-winning chef Simon Burr from the Olfactory Inn.

The show received 204 entries from 34 producers. Associate judges were Shanteh Wong from Quay
Restaurant, Robert Cragg from Fleurieu Vintners and Leon Talamini from Project Wine.
